Eleven

Lana declared she wanted to spend the night with Poe and Olive upon the group’s return. Ever calm, Rowan pointed out that her grandfather and uncle would be arriving in the morning—it had only taken one call to secure the help they needed—and that was enough for Lana to change her mind. She was clearly still bitter about being left out of the fun, but since her grandfather was known to spoil her, she decided she didn’t need to be included in magical dreams after all.

At least not tonight.

Once Zander and Shawn wrangled their crew back across the street, the two remaining couples tucked in Poe and Olive, opting not to admonish them about dream-walking before returning to the living room.

“Do you think they’re going to do it?” Jared asked as he methodically turned off the lights in the living room.

Ivy shrugged. “I think there’s a good possibility. Jack and I will go looking for them. Just in case.”

“In their dreams?” Jared’s forehead creased. “You can do that?”

“We didn’t know they were dreaming together until a few weeks ago,” Ivy replied. “I assumed it was just once or twice, but it seems it’s a regular occurrence now. If we’d known, I would’ve started inviting myself along on their adventures just to keep watch. I think tonight will be a spying mission.”

Harper tilted her head. “Doesn’t that feel invasive?”

“Yes.” There was no hesitation when Ivy answered. “I want to be sure though. We can’t let them get lost in dreams without knowing exactly what they’re dreaming.”

Harper hesitated and then nodded. “You’ll fill us in tomorrow morning?”

“Absolutely.” Ivy bobbed her head. “If we know more, we can figure out exactly what needs to be done here.”

“Then sweet dreams.” Harper waved at the other couple as they headed toward the guest room. “We’ll see you in the morning.”

“And we’ll see the girls within the hour,” Jack promised. “We’ll keep them safe.”

Harper had no doubt that was true.
